Leigh Ann Stewart, a veteran educator in several roles with Christian County Public Schools, will become principal of the school on July 1, the district announced Wednesday.

Stewart said in a press release that she’s “excited to be part of the team to ensure our youngest learners enter school ready to succeed.”

MLK Jr. Early Learning Center will house the district’s preschool classes and the Inspire Early Learning Academy, a partnership between the school district and local industries to help address the shortage of child care programs. Initially, it is serving the children of district employees and local manufacturing plants.

Stewart is currently principal of MLK Jr. Elementary School. Previously she was a teacher and curriculum specialist at Lacy and Belmont elementary schools, assistant principal at Millbrooke Elementary, and school improvement administrator for Freedom and MLK elementary schools. She was also a school administrator for Cumberland Hall.

Stewart earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education ad master’s degree in reading and language arts at Austin Peay State University. She completed the Rank I certification at Indiana Wesleyan and a master’s in school administration at Murray State University.
