Independence Day celebrations planned in Hopkinsville and surrounding communities

There are several options to see fireworks displays, and many celebrations will also feature free, live music.

Several celebrations for Independence Day are planned this week in and around Hopkinsville with music, food, children’s activities and fireworks. 

Most of the offerings are free — with the exception of concessions. Here’s a listing Hoptown Chronicle has compiled for area residents: 

Pembroke

The Pembroke Freedom Celebration will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Pembroke Baptist Church. The celebration will have food trucks, bouncers, a prize wheel, ice cream and a trackless train. Fireworks will begin at dark.

Elkton

Elkton’s annual July 3rd on the Square begins at 6 p.m. The festival in the town square will have food, live music and a children’s bike parade. The fireworks displays, sponsored b B.R. Knuckles Insurance, will begin after dark. 

Live music will include a performance by Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jordan Rainer, who was a finalist on season 24 of “The Voice.”

Hopkinsville

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation organizes the Fourth of July celebration, Red, White and Oooh!. It begins at 7 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Ruff Park on North Drive. Food trucks, Backyard Bouncers and other attractions will be at the park. 

The fireworks display, accompanied by patriotic music on the radio from WKDZ and WHVO, will begin at 9:15 p.m.

Casey Jones Distillery

Red, White & Booze Week will feature three nights of free live music at Casey Jones Distillery, 2815 Witty Lane. These include:

  • 7 p.m. Thursday, July 3 — Pennyrile Area Community Band playing a patriotic pops concert
  • 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 4 — Alonzo Pennington Band
  • 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5 — 101st Airborne Division Band

Smokin’ O’s BBQ will be serving each day from 13:30 to 8 p.m. Guests should bring a lawn chair. 

On Saturday, the distillery will release its new Casey Jones Cinnamon Cut Whiskey.  Fire trucks will be on the grounds for the launch, and a portion of Cinnamon Cut Whiskey will benefit the Hopkinsville Fire Department Association.

Fort Campbell

The Fourth of July Fest begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 4, at the Division Park Field, Fort Campbell, with family friendly activities, food and live music by Blanco Brown and Flo-Rida. (The parade field will open at 4 p.m.)

The event is free and open to the public. Vendors will accept debit/credit cards but not cash. 

Fireworks will begin after the last live music performance. 

Lake Barkley

Red, White and Barkley is set for 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park Beach, 3500 State Park Road, Cadiz. 

Food trucks, beer, games, music and face painting will be offered. (The food trucks require cash.)

The fireworks show, sponsored by Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission, begins at dark.
