Human Rights Commission accepting nominations for Woman of the Year

The deadline to nominate a woman or a group for the award is March 11.

The Human Rights Commission of Hopkinsville-Christian County is accepting nominations for the Fannie B. Postell Woman of the Year Award, which will be presented at the Women’s History Month Celebration at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Milkweed Health & Harmony Emporium, 202 E. Ninth St.

The commission is also accepting applications for its $500 Women Educating Women Scholarship. It will also be presented at the celebration.

The deadline for award nominations and scholarship applications is 4:30 p.m. on March 11. 

The theme for Women’s History Month is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion,” the commission announced.

The nomination form for Women of the Year is available online. The award recognized a woman or a group in the community “whose actions and activities affect changes in the foundation of our community.”

The award is named for Hopkinsville educator Fannie B. Postell (1863-1953). She was named superintendent of the city’s colored school system in 1907 and later served as principal of Attucks High School.

The scholarship application form is also available online. Applicants must submit an essay.

Completed forms should be delivered to the HRC office at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, 715 S. Virginia St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
