Hoptown Chronicle editor to speak at local writers group

Hoptown Chronicle editor and co-founder Jennifer P. Brown wil discuss how to gather and tell meaningful stories about ordinary life on Jan. 13 at The Book & Bottle Shop.

(Editor’s note: Brown could not speak for the January meeting of The Book & Bottle Shop’s writers group, so her session has been rescheduled for Feb. 10.)

Hoptown Chronicle editor and co-founder Jennifer P. Brown will be the featured speaker at an upcoming session of Draft & Drink, a monthly writers group held at The Book & Bottle Shop in downtown Hopkinsville.

Jennifer P. Brown

Brown’s session, titled “Extraordinary Stories from Everyday Life,” will draw on her work as a community journalist and will explore how to reveal deeper truths through writing. Using examples from local reporting, she will share several examples of seemingly ordinary people she has profiled over the years and discuss how their experiences revealed remarkable episodes of life in Hopkinsville. The session will give participants tips for identifying compelling characters for their own stories and delve into the ways personalities are often revealed through mundane actions.

The session is slated for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, and it is open to anyone. Participants do not need to be members of the group — or even active writers — to attend. Anyone interested in writing or the creative process is welcome.

Book & Bottle, 123 E. 9th St., opened in late 2024 as a space intentionally designed for community gathering, with room to linger, talk and create. The Draft & Drink series, which meets every second Tuesday, blends informal discussion, workshops and optional writing sprints.
