Hopkinsville taking applications for City Diplomat Program

The program seeks to give participants knowledge of the inner workings of city government.

The city of Hopkinsville is accepting applications for the sixth City Diplomat Program class.

“We are thrilled to continue offering our citizens the chance to explore the inner workings of city government and discover firsthand how local governance shapes our daily lives,” Mayor James R. Knight Jr. said in a press release. “Our aim is to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to actively contribute to the betterment of our community.”

Christian County residents and business owners are eligible to participate. The program gives participants a way to “engage in dynamic curriculum, including classroom sessions, interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities,” the release states. 

The diplomates chosen will meet at 6 p.m. on July 11, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2 and Dec. 4.

Applications can be submitted online or delivered to City Clerk Brittany Byrum, 715 S. Virginia St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 31.

Individuals chosen for the program will be notify by June 7.
