Hopkinsville Community College receives grant for electrical, construction, and AC tech programs

The Delta Regional Authority awarded more than $250,000 to the college.

A Delta Regional Authority workforce grant for more than $250,0000 has been awarded to Hopkinsville Community College to expand training through the college’s electrical, construction and air conditioning technology programs, according to a press release from HCC.

The college will purchase two enclosed transport trailers designed to move equipment and tools to training locations. This will include the site for the annual Habitat for Humanity building project.

The grant will also provide tool kits and backpacks for students in the programs, and it will support electrical upgrades needed to the training facility on North Main Street, the college announced.

“This grant award is vital to helping the college fulfill its mission of delivering high-quality academics and hands-on training that prepare our students for success in skilled trades,” Dr. Alissa Young, HCC president and CEO, said in the release. “I’m honored that the Delta Regional Authority recognized the significance of this project and our role in meeting the growing demand for a qualified workforce in our region.”

The Delta Regional Authority is a federal-state partnership agency the includes parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. Based in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the agency focuses on economic development, and most of its funds are distributed in distressed communities and isolated areas.

The grant awarded to HCC was part of a $7 million allocation to 25 workforce development projects.
