Hopkinsville Christmas parade will have a kid-focused theme and grand marshal

The evening parade through downtown Hopkinsville will be Saturday, Dec. 10.

Terrence Davis, the executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County, will be the grand marshal of this year’s Christmas parade, city officials announced Wednesday.

The theme of the Dec. 10 parade will be “It’s a Kid’s Christmas.” It will start at 5:15 p.m., following the traditional route on Main Street from Glass Avenue to 13th Street.

“I’m honored to be the Grand Marshal for this year’s Christmas parade! I can’t wait to be a part of one of Hoptown’s longest running traditions,” Davis said in a press release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.

Hopkinsville Electric System and EnergyNet sponsor the parade.

Parade entries — floats, bands, and golf carts representing clubs, individuals, civic groups, churches and businesses — must include lights as part of their display. Registration forms will be available at the Thomas Street Recreation Center beginning Oct. 3.

The deadline for registration is Nov. 18.  The entry fee is $20 and a new toy.

The popular golf cart division allows participation with a less costly and time-consuming presentation, officials said.

Cash prizes will be presented for the traditional float divisions and golf carts. WKDZ/WHVO radio sponsors the People’s Choice Award.
