The annual Naturefest — which celebrates health and wellness, and offers numerous water quality and environmental appreciation activities — is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Jeffers Bend Environmental Center and Botanical Gardens.
Activities will include a walk in the woods with Christian County Master Gardeners, canoe tours on the Jeffers Bend lake, a petting zoo, a butterfly garden, children’s gardening activities, pumpkin painting, corn hole games, face painting and hay rides.
Attendees will be able to learn about solar power, insects, invasive plants, Native American nature lore, quilting, rain gardening and sinkhole restoration. Door-prize drawings are planned at 3:45 p.m.
Several organizations help put on Naturefest, including the Jeffers Bend Steering Committee, the Pennyrile RC&D Area Council, Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority, city of Hopkinsville and the local Master Gardeners.
Admission is $10 per car, but there is no charge for active-duty military and first-responders (with ID).
Jeffers Bend is located on the north side of town with access from Metcalfe Lane adjacent to Riverside Cemetery.
Open daily to the public from dawn to dusk, Jeffers Bend has 41 acres of woodland along the North Fork of Little River. There are 3 miles of walking trails, a wildlife observatory, an amphitheater, butterfly garden and a native botanical garden.
