An Event Guide

The holiday event calendar for Hopkinsville and nearby communities is packed with food and drink, live music, movies, crafting, parades and storytelling. 

Pre-registration is required for some events, and it’s a good idea to check on coronavirus policies so you can decide in advance how to address any concerns. You can also keep up-to-date on local health trends by following Hoptown Chronicle’s COVID-19 page

Nutcracker ballet_3
The Nutcracker ballet

The Pennyroyal Arts Council and Brooke Bailey Dance Addiction will present the second annual performance of "The Nutcracker" ballet at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, 3 and 4, and 2 p.m. on Dec. 5. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.

Museum-at-Home: Cookie Decorating

Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, pick up a free, take-home kit on the front steps of the Pennyroyal Area Museum, 217 E. Ninth St., while supplies last. Includes two homemade sugar cookies, decorating supplies, and a recipe to make more courtesy of Visit Hopkinsville Director and chef Brooke Jung.

Handprint ornaments
Handprint/Footprint Ornament Party

Stop by the She Shed Crafting Shop to make a hand-crafted keepsake with your little at The Studio 3S, 201 E. Ninth St. No appointment needed. Show up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to craft your ornament(s), while supplies last. Finished ornaments will be available to pick up 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 12. Cost is $12 per ornament.

Pembroke tree lighting and Christmas caroling

Pembroke's caroling and tree lighting event will begin at the children’s park, South Main and West Nashville streets. Santa, Mrs. Claus and reindeer will visit.

Story Time with Santa

A special storytime event with Santa begins at 5 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Christian County Public Library. The event is for children 3 to 5 years old and has limited seating, so reserve your spot to attend.

Trivia Night: Holiday Edition

Test out your trivia knowledge for the chance to win prizes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Main Street Tavern Restaurant. Call 270-484-5066 for reservations.

Hopkinsville tree lighting

The tree will be lit at 6 p.m., marking the start of the Christmas season downtown.

Pam Tillis
Pam Tillis: Live at the Alhambra

Country music legend Pam Tillis has written songs for some of the top singers in and beyond Nashville, including "Maybe It Was Memphis," "Shake the Sugar Tree" and "Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life)." Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Christmas show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50.

Coffee beans
Coffee Tasting

The Corner Coffeehouse, 11th and Main streets, will host a coffee tasting co-sponsored by the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library. Includes a brunch box. Cost is $20. Pre-register for one of the 30-minute slots.

Festival of Christmas trees
Festival of Trees
Walk through a winter wonderland of decorated trees at the Memorial Building, 1202 S. Virginia St. Admission is free and raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 for a chance to win one of the Christmas trees on display. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance and there will be take-home activities available for children.

Classic Movie: "Home Alone"

The Alhambra Theatre will play this holiday classic at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online or at the door for $5. Soft drinks, beer, wine, candy and popcorn will be available at concessions.

Hopkinsville Christmas Parade

Hopkinsville’s nighttime Christmas Parade is returning after its COVID-19 cancellation in 2020. The parade will begin at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, taking its traditional route on Main Street through downtown. The theme is Home for the Holidays.

Ice skating skates
Skatin' on the Square

Skatin' on the Square features a 2,500-square foot synthetic ice rink at Founders Square, giving guests the unique opportunity to ice skate in downtown Hopkinsville. Pre-registration is available online and recommended to guarantee a spot. The cost is $10, including skate rental, for 90 minutes. Sessions are available from  1 to 10 p.m. Dec. 11 and 1 to 7 p.m. Dec 12.

Happy Hollerdays

Celebrate the holidays with Appalachian music, dance and storytelling curated by Ben Sollee and Daniel Martin Moore. Performances from some of Kentucky's best contemporary musicians, authors and creatives begin at 7 p.m. at the Alhambra Theatre, 507 Main Street. Tickets for adults are $10. The program is free to students, kindergarten through college.

Crofton Christmas Parade

Following deadly storms that swept across Western Kentucky in the late hours of Friday, Dec. 10, into the next morning, the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department announced the community parade would be rescheduled to Dec. 18. (It was originally planned for Dec. 11.) The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Gordon Park. Cookies with Santa will follow at 1:30 p.m.
