A Guide to Voting

Hoptown Chronicle has gathered everything you need to know about casting a ballot this fall.

When is the election?

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

Where can I find my sample ballot?

Christian County’s sample ballots can be found on the Secretary of State’s website

How can I vote?

Christian County voters have three options: voting absentee by mail-in ballot; casting their ballot early in-person; or voting at one of seven polling places on Election Day.

Although Kentucky’s plan for the general election does not by the strictest definition provide for no-excuse absentee ballots, voters who have any concern about contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, may request an absentee ballot.

ABSENTEE

Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received in the county clerk’s office by Nov. 6.

Ballot collection boxes are located at the Christian County Courthouse, 511 S. Main St., and the Sheriff’s Department, 701 W. 7th St., for those who want to bypass the postal service.

IN-PERSON (EARLY)

Voters casting their ballot in-person before Election Day should be sure to bring a photo ID. Acceptable forms include a driver's license; military ID, college ID or Kentucky government ID.

Christian County's early voting locations include:

Christian County Sheriff's Department • 701 W. Seventh St.

Early voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday from Oct. 13 to Nov. 2. A temperature check and face mask will be required for voters entering the building.

Christian County Senior Citizens Center • 1402 W. Seventh St.

Early voting at the senior center will start the week of Oct. 19. Election officials had planned to use the county courthouse as the second early voting site, but a decision was made to use the senior center instead because it has more interior space and parking.

ON ELECTION DAY

Polls are open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters, regardless of their home address, may cast their in-person ballots at any of the following seven polling locations. A photo ID is required.

  • James E. Bruce Convention Center – 303 Conference Center Drive
  • Christian County Senior Citizens Center – 1402 W. Seventh St.
  • Christian County Courthouse – 511 S. Main St.
  • Valor Hall Conference and Event Center – 105 Walter Garrett Lane, Oak Grove
  • Crofton City Hall – 101 E. Mill St.
  • Pembroke Baptist Church – 144 S. Main St.
  • Sinking Fork Baptist Church – 5800 Princeton Road

Questions about voting can be answered by calling the Christian County Clerk’s Office at (270) 887-4107.

How can I request an absentee ballot?

The deadline to request an absentee ballot was Oct. 9.

According to state regulations, once a voter has requested a mail-in absentee ballot, they cannot vote in person unless they do not receive their requested ballot by Oct. 28.

Medical emergency absentee ballots requested can continue to be submitted from Oct. 10 through Nov. 3.

What if I'm not registered?

The deadline to register to vote in the general election is 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5.

Any Kentucky resident who is a U.S. citizen and will be 18 years old by Nov. 3, 2020, and has not been convicted of a felony, may register to vote by completing a voter registration form online or at the Christian County Clerk’s office.

If you’re not sure if you’re registered to vote or if your voter registration is up to date, you can check here.

How can I make sure my absentee ballot is counted?

You can review the status of your ballot, including the date you requested it, when it was mailed and when it is counted, by checking online at the Kentucky Board of Elections.
