Update: Hopkinsville’s Memorial Day service canceled

Fort Campbell’s deputy commanding general of operations was supposed to speak at the event.

UPDATE: Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West sustained damages in Sunday’s severe weather, and as a result officials said the Memorial Day service is canceled.


Fort Campbell’s deputy commanding general of operations will be the featured speaker for Hopkinsville’s Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. 

Col. Phil Kiniery III is a former executive officer to the Chief of Staff of the Army and previously commanded the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

The Department of Defense announced on March 1 that President Biden has nominated Kiniery for promotion to brigadier general. Kiniery is a graduate of The Citadel, Kansas State University and the U.S. Army War College. 

The Fort Campbell Ceremonial Team will present colors at the Memorial Day service, and the 101st Airborne Band will play. 

Located at 5817 Fort Campbell Blvd., Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West was the first state veterans burial ground established in Kentucky. It opened in March 2004.
