Courthouse hours limited during AC outage

The Christian County Clerk's office will close daily at noon until further notice while the county awaits repairs on the air condition system.

The Christian County Clerk’s Office will limit hours it is open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon until further notice because of an air conditioning outage, Deputy County Clerk Melinda Humphries said Thursday.

The air conditioning has been out of service for about three weeks, and repairs have been delayed while parts are sought for the old cooling system in the historic courthouse on South Main Street.

Humphries said temperature inside the building is typically about 5 degrees higher than the temperature outside. That has made the building too hot in the afternoons with temperatures hovering around 90, she said.

Employees opened windows and set up fans, but that provided little relief. Often, workers have to turn off fans to speak on the phone because it’s difficult to hear what callers are saying.

When the office returns to normal hours, an announcement will be made on the clerk’s website, said Humphries.
