Christian County Literacy Council plans Beyond the Books, a free summer camp

Supported by a Hopkinsville Rotary grant, the camp is free for children ages 4 to 17. Preregistration is required by June 12.

The Christian County Literacy Council is offering a Beyond the Books summer camp. Participants will explore topics ranging from art and cooking to music, science and more.

The council received a Hopkinsville Rotary Club grant to support the day camp, and there is no charge to attend. Sessions are available for elementary-age children, and middle and high school students.

There are two elementary sessions, for children ages 4 to 11 — June 23 and 24, or June 25 and 26. Children ages 4 to 7 must be accompanied by an adult at least 18 years old.

The middle-high session, for ages 12 to 17, is one day on June 27.

The camp will run from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 920 Skyline Drive. Snacks will be provided and everyone will receive a camp T-shirt.

Pre-registration, required by June 12, can be completed online, or by picking up a paper form at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library or at the Hopkinsville Visitor’s Center.
