Christian County Health Department runs out of updated COVID-19 vaccine

As of Tuesday, Walgreens had doses available at its Hopkinsville store, where appointments may be scheduled online.

Less than a week after announcing it had an allotment of the updated COVID-19 vaccine, the Christian County Health Department has administered all of its available doses. The department will be unable to provide the vaccine until further notice, CCHD spokeswoman Cloie Rager said in a press release Tuesday.

“While additional vaccine orders have been placed, there are typically supply and demand issues with updated vaccines …,” Rager said. “This is a national and statewide issue as there are several other public health departments and facilities who are also awaiting additional doses.”

There have been reports nationwide of limited vaccine appointments during the most recent vaccine rollout — the first campaign since the pandemic began that isn’t being managed by the federal government.

For Christian County residents who want the COVID-19 vaccine, another option is Walgreens on Fort Campbell Boulevard. Appointment availability can be checked online or by calling the store at 270-886-0128. As of Tuesday morning, the local store had several appointment times available this week. The store is a participant in the CDC’s Bridge Access Program, which provides no-cost COVID-19 vaccines to adults without health insurance and adults whose insurance does not cover the entire costs.

Additional vaccine sites can be found using the search tool at vaccines.gov.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the updated COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 6 months and older

Rager said the health department will announce vaccine availability when it receives another allotment.
