Kentucky nonprofit arts organizations that provide year-round arts programs are eligible to apply for funding through Feb. 15.

Sen. Mitch McConnell on Sunday referenced the 46,000 servicemembers and 22,000 civilian workers in Kentucky who earn federal government paychecks.

Reed had covered more than 50 Kentucky Derbys and was widely known as an expert on the sport of thoroughbred racing.

Walter Tevis, who grew up in the Lexington area, also wrote "The Hustler" and "The Color of Money," two other books that were adapted into popular films.
