Roughly 16% of Christian County’s registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary election, choosing nominees in races for Hopkinsville mayor, City Council, county offices and Congress — and delivering one of the night’s biggest results in the Republican mayoral primary, where Russ Guffey defeated incumbent James R. Knight Jr.

The mayor’s race was not the only sign of turnover in Hopkinsville city government. Republican challengers defeated incumbents in three City Council primaries: Chance Andrew Tatum beat Vance D. Smith in Ward 1, Jamie Lynn Lienberger edged Brittanie M. Bogard in Ward 9, and Steve Keel defeated Michael Velez in Ward 10.
In federal races, Christian County Republicans gave Andy Barr a wide local win in the U.S. Senate primary, with 61.07% of the vote. U.S. Rep. James Comer also easily carried the county in the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District, receiving more than 86% of the vote. Both of these candidates also carried the state, according to The Associated Press.
With 71% of votes tallied at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Democratic candidate in the U.S. Senate primary had not yet been determined, with Charles Booker leading statewide with 46.5% of the vote, followed by Amy McGrath at 30%. Booker also led Christian County.
Here are the unofficial results for the Christian County Primary Election, reported by the County Clerk’s Office. The winners will advance to the November general election.
