The bell hooks Book Club — an informal group that meets monthly “in conversation of Hopkinsville native bell hooks and her extensive work” — will have its next gathering at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, organizers said in a press release.
The group is beginning discussion of a new selection, “Salvation: Black People and Love.” Anyone interested in learning more about bell hooks is invited to join the group. The meetings are in the bell hooks Legacy Room at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. 217 E. Ninth St.

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County, Hoptown Chronicle, the Christian County Literacy Council and the bell hooks Legacy Group sponsor the book club.
“Writer, cultural critic, feminist icon and Hopkinsville native bell hooks makes an urgent call for a cultural return to a love ethic as she explores the legacy of slavery, Black masculinity, the crisis of self-love and a return to a beloved community,” the release says.
Monday’s meeting will focus on the book’s introduction and Chapter 1. The group will continue to read short portions of the book and meet to discuss them on the third Monday of each month.
“Salvation” is available to purchase in The Vault by Planters Bank Museum Shop, or online through the museum’s Shopify store — or to check out from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.
