Plans set for Veterans Honor Parade on Saturday

The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Building and ends at the Justice Center for a brief ceremony.

Hopkinsville’s annual Veterans Honor Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in downtown.

The route will be from the Memorial Building on South Virginia Street to the Christian County Justice Center on West Ninth Street.

Veterans who want to walk in the parade, or take a seat on a float provided for those who prefer to ride, should gather at the Memorial Building, 1202 S. Virginia St., by 9:45 a.m.

Everyone who participates will receive a small flag to carry and take home, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation said in a Facebook post

“A short closing ceremony will follow at the Justice Center as we honor those who’ve served. Let’s stand together for those who’ve stood for us,” organizers said.

Community members who want to watch the parade traditionally line the sidewalks, especially in the area near the intersection of Ninth and Virginia streets.

Several streets will be blocked to traffic from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Those are:

  • 14th Street at Virginia Street
  • 13th Street at Virginia Street
  • 12th Street at Virginia Street and at Main Street
  • 11th Street at Liberty Street
  • 10th Street at Main Street and at Bethel Street
  • Main Street at Seventh Street
  • Bethel Street at Seventh Street
  • Bethel Street at Ninth Street
  • Ninth Street at Justice Way

Veterans Day, a federal holiday, is Nov. 11. Most government offices and banks are closed that day.
