Two high school seniors will serve as student-elected representatives on the Christian County Board of Education, district officials announced in a press release prior to their swearing-in at Thursday’s school board meeting.

They are K’Veon Ivory, of Christian County High School, and Karla Quintanilla, of Hopkinsville High School.

“It’s an honor to once again welcome two outstanding CCPS high school students to serve on our Board,” Superintendent Chris Bentzel said in the release. “Our student board members bring valuable insight and ensure that student voices remain at the heart of our decision-making. As we enter our fourth year of this successful initiative, it continues to reflect our commitment to viewing students as essential partners in shaping the future of Christian County Public Schools.”

K’Veon is the son of Shaterra Babb and Kortez Ivory. He is involved in several school groups, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Superintendent Advisory Council and the Black Student Union — and he plays basketball at CCHS. K’Veon is a member of the Health Sciences Academy at Gateway Ambassador and serves as a CCPS Ambassador.

Karla Quintanilla

Karla, the daughter of Digna Pineda, is a member of Beta Club and Health Occupations Students of American. She also plays soccer and attends the Health Sciences Academy at Gateway Academy. This is her second year as a Superintendent Student Advisory Council member. She works at Chick-fil-A and operates her own nail business, managing everything from social media to client scheduling.

K’Veon and Karla will attend monthly board meetings and official gatherings and events, and give board presentations. As non-voting members selected by their peers, they will not participate when the board goes into closed sessions.

Student representatives have been serving on the local board since 2022.
