Hopkinsville’s Downtown Entertainment District to open Saturday

Participating businesses that serve alcoholic beverages must complete a city application and pay a $100 fee annually.

Hopkinsville’s Downtown Entertainment District will open Saturday, June 21, city officials announced in a press release

The district is an area of downtown where patrons of businesses that serve alcoholic beverages will be allowed to take their drinks outdoors and into other participating establishments. Street signs installed three months ago mark the district’s boundaries

The district, approved last year by Hopkinsville City Council and recently authorized by a state license, will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Businesses that participate must complete a city application and pay a fee of $100 a year. They will serve drinks in specially marked cups.

As of Tuesday, June 17, five businesses that serve alcohol and three non-alcohol businesses are licensed for the Downtown Entertainment District, said Amanda Brunt, the city’s public information officer.

The alcohol businesses are:

  • The Alhambra
  • The Book and Bottle Shop
  • The Crusty Pig
  • Hopkinsville Brewing Company
  • The Mixer

The non-alcohol businesses:

  • Baked
  • Bella Marie Boutique
  • J Shrecker Jewelry

Brunt told Hoptown Chronicle that the non-alcohol businesses “opted in to allow patrons to bring alcohol into their place of business.”

The city and participating businesses will host a grand opening celebration for the district on Saturday, Aug. 23.

“The Downtown Entertainment District is a key step forward in revitalizing our city and creating new opportunities for economic development,” Mayor James R. Knight Jr. said in a press release. “The initiative aligns perfectly with our Growing Home plan to make Hopkinsville a place where people want to live, work and invest. I’m excited to see our community and local businesses benefit from this vibrant new space in the heart of our city.”

The district Facebook page will provide updates and information about special planned events.
