Christian County Republicans and Democrats slate their annual events

Democrats will meet Oct. 14 for the Edward T. "Ned" Breathitt Dinner, and Republicans have their fall fundraiser on Oct. 26.

Heading into the final weeks before the November general election, both of Christian County’s political party organizations have slated dinner events for their members.

The Christian County Democratic Executive Committee will host its annual Edward T. “Ned” Breathitt Dinner at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Pioneers Complex, 904 N. Main St. The dinner celebrates the legacy of Breathitt, a Hopkinsville lawyer, who was elected governor at the age of 39 in 1963. He is remembered, in part, for passage of the Kentucky Civil Rights Act in 1966, the first state desegregation law in the South.

Speakers for the Breathitt dinner will include Colmon Elridge, Kentucky Democratic Party chairman, and Michael Bowman, the Democratic nominee for state treasurer.

In addition, Democrats will present their Edward T. “Ned” Breathitt service award. The Pioneers will serve a buffet dinner, and a silent auction is planned. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from dinner committee chair Pam Dossett (270-839-3303) or at the door.

The Christian County Republican Party will hosts its annual fall fundraiser at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Casey Jones Distillery, 2815 Witty Lane.

Along with networking, a dinner of ham, vegetable sides and dessert will be served. Tickets, available online, are $20 for a single and $30 for a couple.
