On Tuesday, which was National Voter Registration Day, the state’s chief election official reminded Kentuckians the voter registration deadline for this fall’s general election is two weeks away.
Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said voters can go online to GoVoteKY.com to register or update their voter information by Oct. 7. Voters can also fill out a paper application at their local county clerk’s office until 4 p.m. the same day, and mailed registration applications must also be postmarked by that date.
Grimes said voter registration is a crucial first step toward making one’s voice heard this fall.
“It’s not just enough for folks to have concerns after an election — who’s won, how they’re governing. They only get a say if you actually participate on Election Day. This is a chance for you to be a part of that movement,” Grimes said.
According to a release from Grimes’ office, one must be a U.S. citizen, a Kentucky resident for at least 29 days before Election Day, and not be a convicted felon among other requirements to be eligible to vote. Individuals who are currently 17 years old who will turn 18 by Election Day are also allowed to register.
