Four young writers were recognized Thursday for their entries in the Big Read Teen Writing Contest, and the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has published their stories online.
Contestants were invited to write a short, original myth based on existing mythologies or a creation of their own. The theme came from this year’s Big Read selection, “Circe.”
The winning writers were:
- Emily Couchman, 15, first place, for “The Day the Land Died,” a story about the North Pole.
- Lily Westerfield, 14, second place for “The Sun Guardian,” a story about the creation of the rooster.
- Fiona Knepper, 17, and Jasmine Thompson, 14, tied for third place. Knepper wrote “Skia” and Thompson wrote “The Enchantress of Creation, the Goddess of Magic.”
Big Read activities continue through March 16.
