Starting this week, Kentuckians can apply for state eviction relief funding that keeps tenants housed during the coronavirus pandemic. About $15 million have been earmarked for the relief fund.

The Kentucky Housing Corporation says the fund is a statewide initiative to prevent renters from facing eviction and allow landlords to realize substantial payments for back rent. Eligible tenants must live in any Kentucky county except Jefferson where a similar program exists.
Both the tenant and landlord must fill out an online application. Applications are taken on a first come, first paid basis. The process will close once funds are exhausted. Payments will begin starting September 25th.
Last week, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an emergency public health order, halting most evictions nationwide through the end of the year. The eviction moratorium doesn’t require landlords to forgive housing payments.
