The Christian County Health Department on Saturday reported 26 new coronavirus cases — the highest total since Aug. 11, when 28 new cases were confirmed. It’s the fifth-highest daily total reported by the department since the pandemic began in mid-March.
It brings the total number of active cases in the county to 252, a threshold that has only been exceeded three times before, all of which have occurred in the last month. The total number of individuals who previously tested positive for the novel coronavirus who are now classified as recovered is 693. The county reported the 14th local virus-related death on Monday.
The spike in new cases comes at the start of a holiday weekend that health officials have expressed concern about and as Christian County Public Schools prepare to return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, three weeks earlier than previously planned.
The number of total active cases by age group are:
- Youth (0-21): 60
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 131
- Older Adult (60-84): 45
- Elderly (85+): 16
