Six newly confirmed cases in one day increased Christian County’s coronavirus total to 166, the health department reported.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 40 people were known to have an active case of COVID-19, while 123 people had recovered.
The number of confirmed, active cases by age group are:
- Pediatric (0-21): 3
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 29
- Older Adult (60-84): 8
- Elderly (85+): 0
By race, the local cases include 123 white, 42 black and one Asian.
An increase of six cases in a single day is significantly more than the average of roughly two a day over the past two weeks.
Local officials urged residents to be aware that the virus is still active in the community and to practice safety measures.
“Continue to practice healthy hygiene habits such as frequent hand washing, wear a mask in public places, try to keep a distance of 6 feet or more between you and others in the community, and visit one of our free testing sites to get tested for COVID-19,” health department spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney said in a news release.
Testing is available from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at Tie Breaker Park off LayFayette Road at Eagle Way. There is no charge for the test, and results are typically back in two to three days.
