A rally for women’s rights is planned at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4, outside the Christian County Justice Center.
One of the organizers, Donna Johnson, of Hopkinsville, said in a press release that the rally’s theme is “Empowered women empower women.”
She encouraged those who plan to attend to wear pink and black clothing and to bring signs.
Johnson and Hopkinsville resident Pam Dossett, the Democratic nominee for the 8th House District race in November, shared a Facebook post about the rally.
The rally comes in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning the Roe v. Wade decision, ending constitutionally guaranteed abortion rights in all states.
Kentucky is one of 13 states with a so-called trigger law that immediately banned abortion in most cases upon the Supreme Court’s action. However, on Thursday, June 30, a Jefferson Circuit Court judge temporarily blocked the Kentucky laws banning abortion.
