Preliminary election results show 27 percent of Christian County’s eligible voters cast a ballot in Tuesday’s general election.
That’s a greater turnout than officials in the county clerk’s office had expected, but local interest in the school nickel tax could have been a factor in the number of people who went to the polls.
The day before the election, Deputy County Clerk Melinda Humphries said she was expecting voter turnout turnout of 15 to 20 percent.
According to the county clerk’s numbers, 14,393 of the county’s 53,051 registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday election.
On the nickel tax, the vote was 9,301 against and 4,651 in favor.
