United Way kicking off campaign Thursday

The traditional kick-off breakfast is moving outdoors, to the Tie Breaker Park Pavilion, in consideration of the pandemic.

The United Way of the Pennyrile’s campaign kick-off breakfast is moving outdoors as a precaution following the increase in COVID-19 cases.

The breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Tie Breaker Park Pavilion off Eagle Way.

The local United Way will be flexible with events this year depending on what’s necessary during the pandemic, said Executive Director Betsy Bond. Traditionally, the kick-off breakfast has been at large indoor venues, such as the Christian County Senior Center.

The campaign runs from Sept. 2 to Nov. 30. Co-chairs Brooke June and Dan Kemp announced in May that the fundraising goal would be $750,000 with the theme, “Baking a Difference.”

During the breakfast, early fundraising totals will be announced. Reservations should be made by calling United Way at 270-886-8171.

A mid-campaign report will be given on Oct. 21, and a celebration to wrap up the campaign is slated on Jan. 13.
