Hopkinsville’s Summer Salute, a downtown festival with free live music, plus food, vendors and amusement rides, is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26-27.

The musical acts will include the Jimmy Church Band, the Jason Montgomery Band and the headliner, KC and the Sunshine Band.

The festival opens at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday and runs until 10 p.m. both days. Vendors and food will be set up along Ninth Street from Main Street to the Christian County Justice Center. The Kids Zone with rides and games will be in Little River Park.

Jimmy Church plays from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. Jason Montgomery will play from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The headline concert will start at 7 p.m. Saturday on the main stage in front of the justice center.

“KC and the Sunshine Band will bring an amazing string of dance and pop hits to Summer Salute that will take the audience energy level to an all-time high,” Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab   Brockman said in a press release

The band, known for its mix of funk and disco music, is led by Harry Wayne Casey. The group recorded several hits in the 1970s, including “Shake Your Booty” and “That’s the Way (I Like It).”

The festival will have more than 100 food, drink and merchandise vendors.

The public library, because it is adjacent to the festival, will close at noon Thursday and remain closed on Friday and Saturday.
