Summer Reading Program begins June 3 at Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library

“Fairy Tales, Folk Tales and Myths” is the theme for the summer program, which runs until July 8 — and includes events for all ages.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library will have its Summer Reading Program kickoff party with bounce houses, carnival games, face-painting and other activities from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the library on Bethel Street.

“Fairy Tales, Folk Tales and Myths” is the theme for the summer program, which runs until July 8.

“The library’s team has worked very hard to bring the theme of this year’s program to life,” library interim director Tiffany Luna said in a press release. “I truly hope patrons of all ages enjoy participating in the events as must as we enjoyed preparing them.”

Staff members have created themed decorations, including a 12-foot storybook mural downstairs and a fairy garden for the outdoor pavilion upstairs.

Readers of all ages are invited to participate in the program. After registering in one of the four age categories — pre-readers, up to age 4; kids, 5 to 12; teens, 13 to 17; and adults, 18 and older — participants will use a reading log to track how many hours they spend reading. Registration can be completed online or in-person at the library’s front desk.

Everyone who registers will get goodie bag and a raffle ticket for the first five hours of reading. For every five hours completed after that, another raffle ticket will be awarded.

“Prizes such as a drone, ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ tabletop game and hoverboard are up for grabs at the finale July 8,” the release states.
