Suffrage centennial focus of Midday at the Gallery program Jan. 8

The League of Women Voters has several events planned to commemorate the centennial.

The Hopkinsville Art Guild’s next Midday at the Gallery program will feature an historical overview of the American suffrage movement and plans for events in Hopkinsville to commemorate the centennial of the right to vote for women.

The program is set for noon Jan. 8 at the guild’s gallery on East Sixth Street.

“The Hopkinsville League of Women Voters is excited to offer the community an opportunity to learn more about the historic events that happened 100 years ago in an effort to provide women in the commonwealth of Kentucky the right to vote,” organizers said in a news release.

The program is sponsored by the Hopkinsville-Christian County Newcomers Club. A Midday at the Gallery program occurs at noon on the second Wednesday of each month.

Reservations are not necessary for this free event. A light tasting lunch will be served.
