The winners will be invited to an awards ceremony at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort.

The 2023 Martin Luther King Jr. Essay, Artwork and Poetry Contest is accepting entries from Kentucky students until Dec. 1. The contest is open to anyone enrolled in a Kentucky school or anyone who is home-schooled in the state.

The theme is “Stronger together in unity ’til victory is won.” All of the entries should be inspired by the theme, said contest organizers with the Kentucky Heritage Council and the Kentucky Historical Society.

The essay contest is open to students in grades four through 12. Entries should be 500 words or less.

The visual arts contest is open to kindergarten through 12th grade. Visual art and media entries will be judged based on creativity, originality and a unique style or expression.

Students in grades six through 12 may submit poetry. These entries should not exceed 200 words.

Entries will be accepted online. The winners will be invited to an awards ceremony on Jan. 11 at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort.
