Students in Christian, Todd, Trigg getting a second snow day

The Veterans Day storm left a sheet of ice on many secondary streets and county roads.

Many secondary roads in the region remain ice-covered, and public schools will remain closed again Wednesday in Christian, Todd and Trigg counties.

But Hopkinsville Community College, which was closed Tuesday, will reopen on a regular schedule Wednesday.

For a second night, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army opened its extreme weather event shelter Tuesday in the soup kitchen. Cots are set up in the dining room for anyone needing a warm place to stay overnight.

Most areas of Western Kentucky had 1 to 2 inches of snow on Veterans Day, the National Weather Service at Paducah reported. Hopkinsville had 1.5 inches.

In some areas, the precipitation was a mix of ice and snow, and frigid temperatures kept a sheet of ice on many secondary streets and county roads.

The NWS is forecasting warmer temperatures the remainder of the week, with a high of 39 on Wednesday and 45 on Thursday.
