In response to high turnout for early, in-person voting, the Christian County Clerk’s Office announced today a change in plans for a second polling place.
Beginning Monday voters will be able to cast ballots at the Christian County Senior Citizens Center, in addition to the polling place that opened this week at the sheriff’s department.
The senior center, at 1402 W. Seventh St., has more interior space and parking to accommodate a larger number of voters than the courthouse could, where officials initially planned to start early voting next week, Deputy County Clerk Melinda Humphries told Hoptown Chronicle.
Close to 1,200 voters cast ballots through the first two days at the sheriff’s department, said Humphries.
Voting will continue this week, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Saturday at the sheriff’s department, 701 W. Seventh St.
Beginning next week, voting will be conducted at the same times every day but Sundays through Nov. 2 at both sites. Seven polling sites will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.
Voters must wear a mask when they enter a polling site. Temperatures will be taken.
