School track on Elm Street resurfaced, open for public

The track behind the Gateway Academy building will be open to the public 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

A newly renovated track on Elm Street will be open to members of the public who want to use it for exercise, and it will serve as a practice facility for student-athletes in Christian County Public Schools, the district announced.

The school system spent $220,000 to resurface the track, which is behind the Gateway Academy building near the district’s central office.

“We are incredibly proud of this project and the investment made to support both our students and community,” Assistant Superintendent of Operations Jason Wilson said in a press release.

The public may use the track from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. In some cases, school activities and events could impact availability, the release states.

Video surveillance monitors the track, and district officials asked visitors to help keep the area clean.
