School board slates retreat meeting Saturday at Pennyrile Lodge

Under the Kentucky Open Meetings Law, agency retreats are open to the public.

The Christian County Board of Education will have a retreat meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday in the lodge dining area of Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park.

Public agencies like the school board generally hold retreat meetings for long-range planning and to build consensus among the elected members and staff.

The fact that a meeting is described as a retreat and held outside the board’s normal meeting venue does not mean it is private. In fact, these sessions must remain open to the public under the Kentucky Open Meetings Law

Agenda items listed for Saturday’s school board retreat include “relationship/communications,” “COVID-19 impact and planning” and “fiscal and budgetary planning.”

District spokesman John Rittenhouse told Hoptown Chronicle the meeting is slated to run until 1 p.m.

The school board began 2021 with two new members elected in November: Tiffany Mumford Brame (District 2) and Mike Walker (District 4). They join three returning members: Jeff Moore (District 1), Lindsey Clark (District 3) and Tom Bell (District 5).

The Pennyrile Lodge, 20781 Pennyrile Lodge Road, Dawson Springs, is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Hopkinsville.
