Salvation Army cooling station, shelter hours extended through Aug. 10

The heat index is expected to reach temperatures as high as 107 degrees.

The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville announced it will continue heat relief programs through Saturday, Aug. 10, with a cooling station and the emergency shelter. People already staying in the emergency shelter will be allowed to remain there during the daytime hours, while a cooling station at 313 E. Seventh St., will be open for others.

Hours are as follows:

Cooling station:

  • Location: 313 E Seventh St., Hopkinsville
  • Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Duration: Through Saturday, Aug. 10

Emergency shelter:

  • Extended Hours: 24 hours a day
  • Duration: Through Saturday, Aug. 10
  • Location: Same as above

“The wellbeing of our community is our top priority,” Corps Officer Lieutenant David Donegan said in a news release. “With the current extreme heat, it is crucial that we provide a safe and cool environment for those in need. Our doors are open to anyone seeking relief from the heat, and we encourage the community to support these efforts.”

To support these efforts, The Salvation Army is seeking community assistance. The daily expenses for operating at extended hours are $200. Donations can be dropped off at 313 E. Seventh St., Hopkinsville, KY 42240 or mailed to P.O. Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42241. Donations can also be made online at www.SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org.
