The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has a new way to alert patrons to events and programs.
Anyone can receive mobile alerts from the library by texting “HCCPL” to 57838 from a smartphone. It’s a free service.
“Text messages allow us to communicate quickly and efficiently with patrons. Social media is a great way to keep up with patrons, but reminders for programs can get lost in the shuffle,” Outreach Librarian Elysa Parks said in a news release. “We want everyone to have timely reminders for events they want to be a part of, so no one misses out.”

The number of people using the library has increased in the past year — along with program offerings — so the library needed another tool to keep the community informed, said Parks.
“Attendance and participation continue to grow, and we are looking for the new opportunities to reach our customers,” Executive Director DeeAnna Sova said. “We have programs for our youth and adults, including numerous book clubs, free movies twice a month, cooking and sewing classes that are planned, not to mention our upcoming Author Festival and the first — HCCPL Hoptown Fanfest. The community has many options of how to spend their time, and we want to make sure that the library stays on their radar.”
The library is downtown at 1101 Bethel St. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
