Last September when Hoptown Chronicle and WKMS sponsored a poetry workshop at Hopkinsville Brewing Co. for the Big Read, the event had barely wrapped up when people began telling me that they’d be back if we scheduled another one. They wanted more time with Kentucky poet and playwright Constance Alexander, who led the group through several writing prompts.
I’m happy to report that our next Poetry and Pints writing workshop is set. I hope you’ll join us at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the brewery. You don’t need any experience as a poet. Constance has a way of drawing talent out of her workshop participants — even those who have never written poetry.
Come early so you can order a beer — and enjoy some snacks that Hoptown Chronicle will provide before we start the workshop. Bring a friend. This is appropriate for teenagers, too. The brewery serves soft drinks and water for anyone who doesn’t drink alcohol.
You’ll also have an opportunity to learn about the National Poetry Month observance at WKMS. Anyone who is interested can submit an audio recording of the poem they write during our workshop, and the radio station will consider using it on the air.
