Pioneers will serve barbecue and present Thursday’s History on Tap

The Pioneers will begin selling barbecue sandwiches at 4 p.m. Thursday. Their History on Tap presentation will follow at 6:30 p.m.

For the first time since the launch of History on Tap last year at Hopkinsville Brewing Co., the presenters of the popular program will also be serving food at the brewery.

This Thursday at the brewery, Pioneers Inc. will serve barbecue pork sandwiches beginning at 4 p.m. Then at 6:30 p.m., members of Pioneers will present the History on Tap program about their organization’s history and mission in Hopkinsville.

History on Tap is organized monthly by the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County and features local speakers who present on topics ranging from Hopkinsville’s famous sons and daughters to memorable events in local history.

It was launched in February 2018 to help the museum connect with the community while its main facility, the Pennyroyal Area Museum, has been closed for renovations.

Pioneers, established in 1952, is a men’s service organization. It operates a catering business to help fund its charity work in the community.

Kate Russell, co-owner of the brewery, asked member Wendell Lynch about the possibility of the members serving barbecue on the same day they were scheduled to present the History on Tap program.

“It thought it was a neat opportunity for everybody,” Russell said. “I’m so excited.”
