Pennyroyal Arts Council slates summer enrichment programs for youth

Two art camps, a children's theater production and four free movies for young audiences will be offered.

The Pennyroyal Arts Council is offering several youth programs this summer, including three camps and a series of free movies at the Alhambra Theatre.

The first program, a weeklong Visual Arts Camp led by art educator Paula Gieseke, concluded Friday. Participants in first through eighth grades made art inspired by several different countries.

Mural Arts Camp

The next opportunity for youth is the Mural Arts Camp, June 19 to 23, led by Hopkinsville painter Jennifer Bowman. The participants (rising high school freshmen to seniors) will be in camp from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

“This mural will become part of the emerging, progressive art scene guaranteed to be a destination in downtown Hopkinsville,” Molly Campbell, arts education coordinator, said in a press release.

The cost is $100, and registration for a limited number of campers is available online. For more information about the camp and scholarships, contact Campbell at molly.campbell@pennyroyalarts.org

The arts council will show four movies for young audiences. Admission is free. Each movie begins at 2 p.m. on consecutive Wednesdays. The offerings include:
