Another training session will be offered for volunteers interested in visiting local nursing home residents who don’t have friends or family to check in on them regularly.
The Friendly Visitor volunteer orientation is set for 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 5, at the Pennyrile Area Development District office, 300 Hammond Drive.
Anyone planning to attend can RSVP by calling the PADD office at 270-886-9484 or by emailing long term care ombudsman Cindy Tabor at cindy.tabor@ky.gov. The number of volunteers in the program has declined during the pandemic, and Tabor is trying to build up the ranks again.
“My volunteer program has been devastated by COVID,” she said in an email. “Nursing home visitation is now open and things are starting to trend back to normal.”
