Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and state Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack said the virus was unlikely to be the primary factor resulting in the child’s death, but reporting methodologies mandate the case be listed as a coronavirus death.

Health Commissioner Steven Stack pointed to the percentage of tests that find infection. Over the last two weeks, that number has declined to about 4%. The goal is 3%.

As of Wednesday, the county's case total was 131 with 25 active cases, the health department reported.

Of Christian County's 126 total cases, 20 are active and 103 are recovered. The county has had three COVID-19 related deaths.

The state has reported 10,046 cases of the novel coronavirus, with 457 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 90 in intensive care. At least 3,232 have recovered. The number of reported deaths stands at 439.

Kentucky had 131 new cases Sunday and 214 on Monday. Eight deaths were reported.

Superintendents were told that because there will be no vaccine this year, and no treatment is likely to be widely used before school is fully underway, schools will have to rely on social distancing and other public-health measures to reduce the risk of infection.

The county's total of 119 cases includes 97 people who have recovered from the coronavirus.

The state has confirmed 9,704 residents with the coronavirus, at least 3,232 of whom have recovered, since the start of the outbreak in late February.

Kentucky had 283 new cases confirmed Friday, but the governor said that number could be high because of a Memorial Day lag in lab reports.

Many employees don’t feel safe going back to work, and adding to the anxiety is the uncertainty about the enforcement of safety standards for businesses that are reopening.
