Sen. Whitney Westerfield, R-Fruit Hill, voted against the bill, adding that “we should be very careful about bills that give life to conspiracy.”

The bill would create the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation to replace the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and Department of Charitable Gaming — both of which are currently under the Public Protection Cabinet.

THe funds would go to rehabilitate the Breathitt Area Technology Center and rebuild a fire station, police station and the city hall in Mayfield, as well as the Graves County administration building. 

The bill would require the state to publish a list of compliant products in a directory, which would allow manufacturers, distributors and retailers to know exactly which products could be sold in Kentucky.

House Bill 367, which is currently stalled in the Kentucky Senate, would make it harder for residents to qualify for SNAP benefits. An opponent says it could affect farmers’ businesses and livelihoods. 

“I almost think that typing in the world we live (in) would be more important than the cursive writing,” said McKee Republican Timmy Truett, a school principal. He voted for the bill.

The list includes finalizing the budget and legislation related to child care, abortion, IVF, education, the environment and more.

The super PAC that has supported Sen. Rand Paul and is mainly funded by mega-donor Jeff Yass backed the Ohio GOP primary winner for U.S. Senate.

House Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy, R-Paducah, said his bill will bring Kentucky’s process into line with the U.S. Constitution.

One of the most controversial elements of the bill is reference to a definition clearly meant to apply to drag shows.

As the lawmaking session speeds to an end, Gov. Andy Beshear is preparing for the 10-day veto period.

Voters will get their say in November.
