The expansion is made possible by a bill passed in 2022 and funding from a state budget allotment passed during Gov. Andy Beshear’s first term.

UK Board of Trustees Chair Britt Brockman said in a statement to campus that the board “unequivocally supports President Eli Capilouto.” 

Starting in July, Robbie Fletcher will oversee education for more than 630,000 Kentucky students.

Currently, the University Senate “determines broad academic policies” for UK. Under the new model, faculty, staff and student representatives would largely have an advisory role. The board will take feedback from campus stakeholders before giving final review to the proposal in June.

Some fear that fewer FAFSA completions could result in fewer college enrollments.

Some colleges are extending the traditional May 1 deadline for students to accept offers.
