Sara Sweeney, who is an assistant principal at Millbrooke Elementary School, will become the principal of Indian Hill Elementary School this summer, district spokesman John Rittenhouse said.

Sweeney will replace Tonya Oakley, who earlier announced her plan to retire.

“I look forward to expanding on the work that has been accomplished the past several years under the leadership of Tonya Oakley,” Sweeney said in a news release. “Although I will miss my Millbrooke family, I look forward to this next adventure as an Indian Hills Chief.”

Sweeney began her career 14 years ago as a reading and social studies teacher at Sinking Fork Elementary School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Murray State University and has master’s degrees from Murray and Western Kentucky University.
