Museum offering 2 history tours in May

The museum is offering its popular Downtown Tipsy Tour and a bus tour of state historical markers across the county.

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County has planned two local tours — one by bus and the other on foot — in May.

The first offering is the latest in the museum’s popular Downtown Tipsy Tour. It begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16.

The walking tour will depart from the Pennyroyal Area Museum and visit three downtown establishments as participants stroll and drink their way “through some of the seedy and scandalous moments” in local history.

While drinking is optional, the $35 tour ticket includes special adult beverages served along the tour at The Crusty Pig, The Mixer and Hopkinsville Brewing Co.

The tour, for guests 21 and older, is about 1.5 miles long and lasts approximately two hours.

Tickets can be purchased at the Pennyroyal Area Museum or online.

The bus tour — leaving at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, from the Visitors Center at 1730 E. Ninth St. — will be a countywide ride to see the local Kentucky Historical Markers.

“Since 1949, the Kentucky Historical Society has partnered with communities across the commonwealth to install more than 2,400 historical markers that share our state’s complex and remarkable history,” the museum’s press release states. “Of those 2,400 markers, 23 are located in Christian County — with two more approved for installation. The earliest was dedicated here in 1964; the most recent in 2025 with a dedication in the works.”

Museum director Alissa Keller will narrate the bus tour, which will last about two hours.

The bus tour is limited to 12 riders. The cost is $20. Tickets are available online, or at the Visitors Center or the Pennryoyal Area Museum.
