Murray State history professor to give keynote at African American Heritage Breakfast

Dr. Brian Clardy will speak at the event sponsored by the Modernette Civic Club.

Dr. Brian Clardy, professor of history at Murray State University, will give the keynote address for the African American Heritage Breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville.

This will mark the 29th year that the Modernette Civic Club has hosted the breakfast to commemorate Black History Month, said founding member Billie Todd.

Tickets for the breakfast are $35 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite or in advance from members of Modernettes. A limited number of ticket could be available to purchase at the door.

Clardy earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Tennessee at Martin, a masters from Murray State University and his doctorate from Southern Illinois University. His areas of research interest include U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War, the Vietnam War era, the American presidency and comparative world religions. 

At Murray Clardy has taught courses in U.S. history, world civilization, American government, the history of religion in America and other topics.

He has served as a panelist on KET public affairs programming and as a co-host and commentator for WKMS, the public radio station at Murray. 

Clardy serves on the governing board of the Kentucky Historical Society. In 2002 he was elected to chair the Kentucky Humanities Council Board of Directors.
