Monique Lewis promoted to principal at Freedom Elementary School

Lewis began her career in 1998 as a teacher in Christian County Public Schools.

An assistant principal at Freedom Elementary School has been named the school’s principal.

Officials with Christian County Public Schools announced Monique Lewis’ selection following a site-based council meeting Tuesday. The council met with Superintendent Chris Bentzel and unanimously affirmed the superintendent’s choice for principal, according to a press release from the district office.

Bentzel, in the release, said Lewis has been “instrumental in the ongoing turnaround process at Freedom Elementary, making significant strides in both the school’s performance and culture …”

“She has built strong relationships with students and staff, and has established a solid foundation in instructional leadership, staff development, and community engagement — key areas that are essential for the role of principal,” he said.

Lewis was a teacher in Christian County, at Belmont, Martin Luther King Jr. and Sinking Fork elementary school, from 1998 to 2022 — and then became Freedom’s assistant principal.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in instructional leadership and the Rank I certification at Murray State University.
